三相異步電動機的轉矩公式為：

C：為常數同電機本身的特性有關； U1 ：輸入電壓 ；

R2 ：轉子電阻； X20 ：轉子漏感抗； S：轉差率

可以知道M∝U12 轉矩與電源電壓的平方成正比，設正常輸入電壓時負載轉矩為M2 ，電壓下降使電磁轉矩M下降很多；由于M2不變，所以M小于M2平衡關系受到破壞，導致電動機轉速的下降，轉差率S上升；它又引起轉子電壓平衡方程式的變化，使轉子電流I2上升。也就是定子電流I1隨之增加（由變壓器關系可以知道）；同時I2增加也是電動機軸上送出的轉矩M又回升，直到與M2相等為止。這時電動機轉速又趨于新的穩定值。
